Panthers Sign Thomas DeCoud

On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers signed former Atlanta Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud to a two-year deal.

The deal is worth up to $3.75 million with incentives, including a $500k signing bonus.

DeCoud was a Pro Bowler two years ago. He was a solid player in Atlanta's defense and lining up in the secondary with Roman Harper will certainly take less pressure off of Carolina's front seven.

Another thing this signing gives the Panthers is the option to get rid of Charles Godfrey if they want. They've got two solid safeties now in Harper and DeCoud, and Godfrey is pretty expensive. Cutting him would give the team more cap space and they wouldn't be left in a bad situation in the secondary.

In the past week, the Panthers have signed DeCoud, Ed Dickson, Colin Cole, and Jason Avant.
