Free Agency News

The Carolina Panthers are starting to get a little busy in free agency.

It was reported on Monday that former Atlanta Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud was visiting the team. DeCoud, although not the best safety, would be a good pick up for Carolina because it would allow the team to let go of Charles Godfrey and save a good bit of cap space.

On Tuesday, the Panthers re-signed veteran nose tackle Colin Cole to a one-year deal, bringing back a part of the incredible defensive line that Carolina had in 2013. Cole played only 31% of the snaps on defense last year, but also played a big part in making Star Lotulelei so effective.

Today, it was reported that former Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson was visiting with the Panthers. It would be interesting to see him line up in a two tight end set with Greg Olsen. Cam Newton did a great job in his rookie season, and a big part of that was having two effective tight ends in Olsen and Jeremy Shockey. Dickson is also a tall guy at 6'4", and a bigger target in the passing game is something that Cam has been missing sorely. Dickson is low risk, high reward. If he works out, that's great for the offense. If not, the team has other tight ends that they can develop.
